Obra básica de John Locke. Os Two Treatises of Government, publicados em Outubro de de 1689, com a data de 1690, mas elaborados entre 1679 e 1681. No primeiro tratado, originalmente dito The False Principles and Foundations of Sir Robert Filmer and his Followers are Detected and Overthrown, uma vigorosa refutação da obra de Robert Filmer, Pathriarca; no segundo, intitulado Essay Concerning the True, Extent, and End of Civil Government, um ataque ao Leviathan de Thomas Hobbes.

Tylor, Edward (1832-1917) Antropólogo inglês, de origens quakers. Formado em direito por Oxford, dedica-se aos negócios da família até passar a estudar antropologia. Director do University Museum de Oxford a partir de 1883 e professor de antropologia na mesma universidade de 1896 a 1909. Publica em 1881, o primeiro livro, Anthropology, ao qual se seguem Researches into the Early History of Mankind (1865), Primitive Culture (1871), and Anahuac (1861).
